MOORE, S.C. (WSPA) – Three people have been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal shooting in Moore.
According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred on Vista Drive Sunday afternoon.
“It was brutal. It was very brutal,” said Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright.
The sheriff’s office said it was a domestic case that escalated, killing 21-year-old Victoria Grace Long.
Deputies said 25-year-old Matthew Long, Victoria’s husband, was charged with murder; while his parents face accessory/obstruction charges. Those charged are as follows:
- Mathew Long (25): Charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime
- Donald Long (71): Charged with Felony Accessory After the Fact
- Carolyn Long (77): Charged with Obstructing Justice
Carolyn Long is accused of lying to law enforcement about who killed her daughter-in-law. The solicitor said she claimed someone on the victim’s side of the family was responsible for her death.
“The mother tells deputies when they get there an elaborate story of somebody walking into the home and doing the shooting, when all along it was her son,” said Sheriff Wright. “There was a story that was was made up was about some guy walking in the garage and we were getting ready to launch the helicopter, the dog team, SWAT team and then it came to light what really happened.”
Monday afternoon the Long family appeared in court where two 911 calls emerged unveiling a timeline of events.
According to the solicitor, Donald long was seen by witnesses walking out of the house with a gun bag. Deputies said he was not home when they arrived on the scene.
“Don’t think you are doing your family any favors when you are lying to us because that’s just going to get you in trouble and make the situation worse,” said Sheriff Wright.
For Sheriff Wright, this case hit home.
“I’ve been doing this for 36 years and that’s going to rank right in the top four or five horrible domestic calls we have ever been to,” he said.
On Monday afternoon, Matthew Long was denied bond. He will remain at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
Donald Long was granted at $10,000 bond, GPS home detention, asked to surrender his passport and denied contact with the victim’s family and other co-defendants, including his wife.
Carolyn Long was assigned the same conditions, with exception to being granted $5,000 bond.
This is still an active investigation.
