UNION COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Union County Coroner has identified a person that was found dead on railroad tracks in Union County on Tuesday.
The body was found in the area of Short Street and Monarch Highway.
Around 11:41 a.m. Union County 911 received a call from Norfolk Southern stating a train traveling into Union hit something on the tracks in the Monarch community.
Deputies in the area found multiple items on the tracks, including the body of a man.
A video posted to social media, which has since been deleted, showed a body on the railroad tracks a short distance from Short Street.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office said they are still in the early stages of their investigation.
The Union County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Matthew Price, 32, of Union. An autopsy report is scheduled.
The investigation is ongoing by the Union County Coroner’s Office, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Norfolk Southern Railway Police.
