GAFFNEY, SC (WSPA) – The coroner says a man was shot and killed Sunday night in Gaffney as he walked to his nearby apartment from a store.

The victim has been identified as Randy O’Neal Simpson, 37, of Gaffney.

Simpson died at the scene after he was shot several times, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.

“Family members said Simpson was last seen about 8 p.m. when he left his apartment walking to a nearby convenience store,” Fowler said.

Gaffney police found Simpson lying in Fort Street around 9:20 p.m. Sunday after responding to reports of gunshots.

The coroner said it appears Simpson was gunned down as he was headed home to his apartment, which is just a block from where he was shot.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday.

Police have released no information about an arrest or suspects.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Det. Lt. Ron Ramsey at 864-206-3320 or the 864-489-8115.
