LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A man was arrested Wednesday on charges related to the case of a woman who was found dead on the side of the road in Mountville last week.
We reported earlier that the body of Gwen Parks Wingo was found on the side of the road on Beaverdam Church Road on June 15.
Sheriff’s office officials said a farmer found Wingo’s body as he was driving his tractor down the road.
The Laurens County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and pronounced Wingo as deceased.
The sheriff’s office said there was no immediate signs of trauma.
The incident is under investigation at this time, but they said there were no immediate signs of foul play.
During an investigation into Wingo’s death, investigators learned that Wingo voluntarily got into a vehicle with an unknown individual at a Corner Mart gas station, located at the intersection of Highway 76 and Torrington Road in Clinton.
According to a news release on Thursday, tips led investigators to identify the individual as Boyd James Nabors, Jr., of Clinton.
Nabors was located on Wednesday and was later arrested.
According to the release, Nabors was charged with obstruction of justice, drug conspiracy and soliciting prostitution.
Nabors was taken to the Johnson Detention Center where he was booked on those charges.
He was later released on Thursday on a $3,400 bond.
“Mr. Nabors could have avoided a lot of trouble and heartache for the family of Mrs. Wingo and most likely himself if he had only been forthcoming when this occurred,” Sheriff Don Reynolds said. “Due to Mr. Nabors leaving the scene, he caused her family a lot of unnecessary pain at such a tragic time and left them with many questions. There’s no good ending to a situation like this but hopefully it brings closure to the family of Mrs. Wingo.”
