Woman who barricaded in Asheville Food Lion bathroom in custody, police say

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Asheville Police Department officials said a woman is in custody after she reportedly barricaded herself in a grocery store bathroom Wednesday morning.

According to a Asheville Police Department officials, police received a call about a person suffering from a crisis at around 8:15 a.m. at the Food Lion on Smokey Park Highway, and found that a woman had barricaded herself in the bathroom.

Officers secured the scene and evacuated everyone from the store. A crisis negotiation team responded to the scene.

At around 1 p.m., the woman came out of the bathroom and was taken into custody.

Police said a firearm and a knife was found in the woman’s possession.

The incident lasted approximately five hours.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
