Bicyclist found dead after not returning from ride in northern Greenville Co.

GREENVILLE CO., SC (WSPA) – A bicyclist was found dead down an embankment Wednesday afternoon after he didn’t return from a bike ride in northern Greenville County.

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, a cyclist was riding along Callahan Mountain Road Wednesday morning when he failed to return home.

The coroner said the victim was found down an embankment in an area which was not easily visible from the road.

The victim was identified as 74-year-old Leslie Joseph Marella, Jr. The coroner estimated that Marella died shortly before 10:00am.

It is not believed that Marella was hit by a vehicle or another object, according to the coroner.

The coroner’s office said the cause of death is blunt force trauma.
