ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A woman died during a house fire late Wednesday evening in Anderson County.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said it responded to a house along Old Denver Road at 11 p.m.
According to investigators, three people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but only two escaped.
“I saw my neighbor and someone run out,” a neighbor told 7NEWS.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said 77-year-old Shirley Blanche Campbell died from smoke inhalation.
“As they were extinguishing it, they [firefighters] found the victim on the couch,” said Anderson County Fire Chief Jimmy Sutherland.
The victim’s grandson was taken to the JMS Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia to be treated for his injuries, according to the coroner.
The third person was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.
“She was very kind and sweet,” added the neighbor. “So, whatever happened, I hope they figure it out. I hope it was just an accident.”
The coroner said “there is no indication of foul play.” The fire remains under investigation.
