Love blossoms 51 years after meeting at Heart’s

UNION SC (WSPA) — For more than half a century, many love stories got their start at Heart’s Drive-In.

A couple who met at the Union restaurant will soon celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ronnie and Brenda Ward say they were destined to meet.

It happened in July 1967 at Heart’s. They were engaged by December and married just months later.

Thursday marks their 50th anniversary.

Their daughters didn’t wait to celebrate. They “kidnapped” their parents – blindfolding and handcuffing the couple before returning to the spot where love blossomed decades earlier.

They admit it has not always been easy.

What’s their secret?

They pray and have learned to compromise.

“Love is a choice. Sometimes you have to work through it. You really do.”
