SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) — A Spartanburg man is accused of abusing his wheelchair-bound mother.

Jerome Earl Boyd, 54, is charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult and abuse/neglect with great bodily harm to vulnerable adult.

A police report says officers responded Tuesday night to a home listed as Boyd’s address for a report that a vulnerable adult was being abused.

Police were given a video showing Boyd lowering the victim back in her wheelchair with “malicious intent” and giving her a water bottle before slapping it out of her hands.

The victim’s granddaughter told police she feared for the victim’s life.

Family members told police that Boyd is supposed to be caring for his mother.

The report says the victim was unclear when answering questions and told police that she did not want to go to the hospital.

As of Wednesday morning, Boyd remains in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

The victim’s condition was not immediately available from Spartanburg Police Department.
