GREENWOOD, SC (WSPA) – Greenwood Police Department officials said a man is accused of attempted murder after a stabbing incident early Monday morning.

According to the police department’s Facebook post, officers responded to a reported stabbing incident on Lanham Street at around 5 a.m. Monday.

When they arrived on-scene, they found a man sitting in front of the house bleeding from multiple cuts.

The man was then taken to Self Regional Healthcare for treatment and he is expected to recover.

According to the post, officers believe that the suspect — identified as William Taylor Whatley, 23, of Greenwood — went to the home to speak with his ex-girlfriend and was confronted by the man who was there.

Police said an argument between the two men occurred and Whatley reportedly pulled out a knife and began cutting the victim before he left in a vehicle.

Whatley was identified by the man and the person who called about the incident.

According to the post, Whatley’s family was contacted and a short time later, he went to city hall and turned himself into officers at around 8 a.m.

Whatley was charged with attempted murder and was booked into the Greenwood County Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
