Man accused of beating, raping, kidnapping woman in Union

UNION, SC (WSPA) – A Union man was arrested Tuesday and faces multiple charges after he reportedly attacked and sexually assaulted a woman at an apartment on Saturday.

According to a Union Police Department report, officers were called to Union Medical Center on Sept. 29 in regards to an assault.

When officers arrived at the hospital, they spoke to a nurse who said a victim had come into the emergency room with a complaint about an assault.

The victim told officers that she had been beaten and sexually assaulted by the father of her two children, Jermaine Deonte Lindsay, 22.

An exam showed that the woman had bruising to her face, chest, legs, arms, jaw and eyes, as well as cigarette burns to her left hand and two more burns to her left leg. There were also reportedly hand marks on the woman’s neck.

The woman told officers that Lindsay rushed her at her apartment when she was bringing her 5-year-old son into the apartment, and he grabbed her phone and started to look through it.

According to the report, Lindsay then shut the door and the woman tried to leave, but he would not let her go and grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into the bedroom of the apartment.

As he shut the bedroom door, the woman tried to get her mace, but he grabbed the device and threw it.

According to the report, Lindsay then started to punch the woman in the face, threw her onto the bed, put his hands around her neck and started to choke her.

He then reportedly began hitting the woman in the head with her cellphone.

As he was choking her, Lindsay tried to get a cord from a lamp in the room, and when he had the cord the lamp fell and broke in the room.

According to the report, Lindsay still had the woman by the hair and he kept hitting her in the head.

The woman asked him why he was doing this to her, and he said “he had 10 years over his head,” and then dragged the woman into another room while holding her hair.

The woman tried to turn on the lights, but he stopped her and hit her in the head again, making her go unconscious.

When the woman gained consciousness, Lindsay reportedly hit her in the head again and pulled her by the hair into bedroom again.

According to the report, Lindsay slammed the victim onto the bed, held her down by the neck, looked through her cellphone and found a message to another male subject.

The woman said that’s when Lindsay raped her and called her derogatory names.

Lindsay then allegedly dragged the woman by her feet off the bed and punched her again.

According to the report, he then grabbed her by her hair and slammed her head into the wall.

Lindsay reportedly smoked a cigarette and burned the woman on her left hand and twice on her left leg with the cigarette, and continued to hit her.

He then reportedly told her to get dressed and that she was going on a ride with him.

The woman told officer that’s when she was able to escape by running down the stairs and to a neighbor’s apartment where she called her aunt.

The woman’s aunt drove her to the hospital, according to the report.

The woman’s two children — a 5-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter — were both present during the incident.

Lindsay was arrested on Tuesday and charged with:

  • First-degree burglary
  • Domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature
  • Kidnapping
  • First-degree criminal sexual conduct
  • Trespassing/Entering premises after warning or refusing to leave on request
  • Malicious injury
  • Malicious damage to personal property
  • Rule to show cause

He was taken to the Union County Detention Center.
