A man is accused of posing as an officer after a shoplifting.

According to an incident report, a woman shoplifted beer early Tuesday morning at the Circle K convenience store at 1696 E. Main St. in Duncan.

A store employee and witness told deputies the woman left the store and got into the passenger seat of a van.

The driver of that van identified himself as law enforcement, according to the employee.

Witnesses said he was wearing a tactical vest and silver badge. But the suspect drove way when asked for his credentials.

The suspect was identified as Paul Alexander Crawley, 21, of Spartanburg. He’s charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Deputies say Crawley is also charged with shoplifting.

A warrant on the female suspect, identified in a report as 19-year-old Pearlie Helle, remains active, according to the sheriff’s office.
