GREENWOOD, S.C. (WSPA)- A Greenwood man is charged with a child sex crime.

According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies got a call from the child’s mother about an incident that happened on March 30th involving the suspect, James David Childress of Greenwood.

The mother told them her 5-year-old daughter was acting odd after she picked up her daughter from Childress’s house. The child told her that while her grandparents were away, the man “stuck a finger in her bottom”, according to the report.

The child was taken to Self Regional to get checked out. According to the report, the doctor found no trauma or signs of penetration.

The mother also contacted an investigator with the SC Department of Social Services about the incident because she says Childress has done this before to the child.

Greenwood deputies arrested Childress and charged him with lewd act upon a child under 14 years of age.

Deputies and DSS are still investigating.
