Man accused of shooting NC deputy killed by SWAT team


CALDWELL Co., N.C. (WSPA) — The suspect accused of shooting a sheriff’s deputy in North Carolina is dead and his girlfriend has been arrested.

WBTV reports the suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, pulled a gun on SWAT team members and was fatally shot.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the deputy was shot during a traffic stop near Lenoir, N.C. on Sunday night.

After the shooting, the suspect fled in a car with a female passenger. 

The wounded deputy was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for surgery. He was hit below a bullet-proof vest, according to the sheriff’s office. 

He was in stable condition as of Monday.

The woman found inside the home and arrested was identified as Stephanie Sipes. She was reportedly charged with accessory after the fact of the attempted murder.
