SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A moped was reported stolen in Spartanburg after a man allegedly drove away with it during a test drive, according to a Spartanburg Police Department report.

Michael Foster, who had given his name as Michael Johnson, had met with the owner to talk about buying the moped and insisted on a test drive.

The two met at the QuikTrip on St. John Street where Foster began his test drive.

After making two laps around the building, Foster allegedly sped off with the moped.

A friend of the owner said that he would drive around the area and look for it. He later called the owner and said he saw someone driving the moped into an motel on East Main Street.

Spartanburg police later found Foster and the moped at the motel where he was staying.

Foster admitted to driving away with the moped and was arrested and charged with petit larceny.

He was then taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

Foster also reportedly had three previous convictions for property crimes.

The moped was later returned to the victim.
