GREENVILLE Co., SC (WSPA) – A man has been arrested after an employee at Wade Hampton High School was assaulted in the parking lot, according to Greenville Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Warrants say the suspect was not a student and didn’t have any business at the school.
Greenville Co. Schools say investigators confirmed the assault was motivated by a personal dispute.
Mark Aaron Arterburn, of Greer, is charged with disturbing school, according to the warrant.
Investigators say it happened shortly before 5 p.m. after school hours.
They say the victim walked to their vehicle where they were assaulted by an unknown male.
No weapons were involved, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim’s injuries weren’t life threatening.
The sheriff’s office says it was an isolated incident and no further charges are expected.
In a statement, the district said: “We appreciate the willingness of the Sheriff’s Office to provide extra deputies for the school during the investigation. We will continue to encourage students and staff to be cautious and aware of their surroundings when leaving the building -particularly after hours – but we are relieved to know this was not a random act. We are confident that WHHS remains a safe campus for students, employees, and visitors.”
