COLLETON, SC (WSPA) – An Anderson man is in critical condition after a rattlesnake fell from a tree on to his kayak and bit him, according to Colleton Co. Fire-Rescue.

They say the man and some friends were kayaking on the Edisto River on May 19 when the snake dropped and bit him twice on the hand.

They caught the snake and made it to a landing to call 911.

He was taken to Colleton Medical Center who had anti-venom available.

They say the man’s condition greatly deteriorated on the way to the hospital where he was in ICU.

He was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina on Sunday.
