GREENVILLE Co., S.C. (WSPA) – A man has been charged with murder after a deadly shooting at Swagg Bar and Grill in Greenville County early Friday morning.
The shooting occurred at the business on White Horse Road around 12:45 a.m.
According to Greenville County Coroner Kent Dill, Norris Shawndra Bates, 30, of Piedmont, was involved in a fight with another person at the club around 12:45 a.m.
Bates was then taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injures. He later died in surgery around 9:40 a.m.
Dill said an autopsy has been scheduled.
The case and manner of Bates’ death has not yet been determined.
Greenville Co. Deputy Sean Zukowsky said based on leads from the investigation, deputies responded to 156 Pine Creek Court Extension.
At that scene they made contact with the suspect, identified as Timathius Lewers, 32.
Investigators discovered that after Lewers shot Bates, Lewers received a minor, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg. This shooting on Pine Tree Court Extension happened around 6:30 a.m. Friday. That scene is less than two miles from the night club shooting.
Lewers was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injury.
Once released from the hospital, Lewers was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
He was then booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.
The coroner’s office, along with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the shooting.
