Man charged with DUI after deadly crash in Greenville

A man is facing charges after a crash killed his passenger in Greenville.

The crash happened on South Pleasantburg Drive near Mauldin Road around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. 

Troopers say Ronnie Eugene Austin made a U-turn and was hit by another vehicle.

A passenger in Ronnie Austin’s car, identified as 68-year-old Allen Marion Austin of Greenville, suffered injuries to his head and chest in the crash.

Authorities say Allen Austin died on the way to the hospital.

A driver and passenger in the other vehicle were not hurt.

Ronnie Austin is charged with DUI with death, liquor law violation, driving under suspension, and being a habitual offender.

As of Monday morning, Ronnie Austin remains in the Greenville County Detention Center.
