Man ‘chased by people or some things’ steals Hendersonville Police car, says report


HENDERSONVILLE, NC (WSPA) – A man is accused of attacking a van driving down the street and stealing a patrol car, according to a report from Hendersonville Police.

On Friday, Nov. 2 around 12:37 a.m. an officer was traveling on 4th Ave. when they saw a man jumping on the hood of a white van in an apparent disturbance while the van was moving down Church St.

They say the man was trying to damage the van or trying to force his way inside.

The van abruptly stopped and the suspect was thrown on to the street.

The officer approached and the suspect quickly ran towards the officer shouting incoherently that he was being “chased by people or some things.”

The suspect ran toward the officer’s car, got in and drove off before they could be subdued by the officer.

Police used GPS to track the car and found it crashed at the intersection of 4th Ave. and Jordan St.

The suspect, Julius L. Hodges, 34, of Dumfries, VA, was found nearby and arrested.

They say he continued to shout incoherently as he was being arrested.

β€’ Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

β€’ Assault on a Government Official Inflicting Injury

β€’ Assault on a Government Official

β€’ Resist Obstruct and Delay

β€’ Injury to Personal Property

β€’ DWI

Police say the initial investigation into the incident between Hodges and the van is continuing.
