Man dies after truck crashes on SC Hwy 66 in Laurens Co.

LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A man killed in a crash on SC Highway 66 near Chilton Drive in the town of Joanna on Thursday evening has been identified.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m.

A 1996 GMC truck was traveling west on SC-66 when it went off the right side of the road and hit a mailbox.

The vehicle then left the road a second time, overturned and hit a tree.

The driver of the truck was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was entrapped and was fatally injured in the crash.

According to highway patrol, the person was extricated from the vehicle and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Laurens County Coroner identified George Franklin Stockman III, 23, of Joanna, as the driver of the truck.

The coroner said Stockman was pronounced dead at the scene and died due to multi-blunt force trauma.

No other passengers were in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
