OCONEE CO., SC (WSPA) – A man has died after a Sunday morning crash in Oconee County.

The coroner says the crash happened around 11:00am on West Oak Highway.

According to the Oconee County Coroner, 70-year-old Johnny C. Patterson, of Seneca, died almost two hours after the crash.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened near Wade Hampton Lane on Highway 24.

Troopers say a pickup truck ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, then ran off the left side of the road and struck a ditch.

According to Highway Patrol, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The coroner’s office said on Monday that Patterson died from a cardiac related medical event, which led to the crash, and his death has been classified as natural.
