SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – The coroner says an 83-year-old man has died after a crash on Abner Creek Road in Spartanburg County, Wednesday.

The three-car crash happened shortly before 11:30am, according to the coroner’s office.

The victim, identified as Fred Elmer Wilson, was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center where he died a short time later, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

Highway Patrol says Wilson’s vehicle and another vehicle were driving north on Abner Creek Road when a third vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Sydney Calvin, headed south on Abner Creek Road ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and struck Wilson’s vehicle.

Wilson’s car ran off the right side of the road and hit two trees. The other vehicle headed north tried to avoid the crash but ran off the road and struck the back of Wilson’s car.

Nobody else was hurt in the crash.

Calvin was charged with Driving Too Fast For Conditions, according to Highway Patrol.
