PIEDMONT, S.C. (WSPA) – Deputies attempting to serve a warrant got into a stand-off before fatally shooting a man Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.

Jeffrey Allen Morris, 44, barricaded himself inside a home at 803 Mountain Springs Road with a long rifle. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office says several units responded.

Deputies say Morris was wanted on a probation violation.

Officers set off a flash-bang grenade and a man came outside armed with a weapon, Sheriff John Skipper said.

At least one deputy fired at Morris, who was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Deputy Coroner Don McCown said that Morris died at 5:32 p.m. from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Morris’ death has been ruled a homicide.

Skipper said no deputies were hurt.

The S.C. Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident.
