SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A man was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Monday after he pleaded guilty to killing a woman inside his home in 2017.

According to a solicitor’s office news release, Donald Anthony Partaka, 60, of Campobello, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

In Oct. 11, 2017, Partaka shot and killed Laura Ashley Hood, 34.

When Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene, they found Hood dead inside Partaka’s home. Partaka had reportedly called 911 to report that he shot an unknown intruder.

According to the release, evidence from the scene didn’t match with Partaka’s version of events, and concluded that there was no sign of forced entry at the home.

Partaka told deputies that he had been drinking in the hours leading up to the shooting and admitted that he knew Hood through their work together at the Village Greens Golf Club.

According to the release, Partaka had no previous criminal history in South Carolina.
