BOILING SPRINGS, SC (WSPA) – A Boiling Springs man was sentenced to 40 years after he admitted to beating his neighbor to death with a steel pipe.
Joshua Ellis, 29, pleaded guilty to murder and armed robbery and has no possibility of early release or parole, accordng to Solicitor Barry Barnette.
The body of Boyce Pye, 67, was found on his bedroom floor at his home on Tool Road on June 25, 2017.
He died from head trauma secondary to blunt force trauma, according to the autopsy.
Ellis then stole the man’s truck.
Investigators say they found it parked at Boiling springs Memorial Gardens on Highway 9 and the murder weapon was found in the truck with the victim’s blood on it.
Someone had called 911 and reported that Ellis might have killed Pye. Deputies forced their way into the home and found him dead, according to solicitor’s office.
Investigators say Ellis gave inconsistent accounts of his time with Pye before he admitted he killed him.
He then told investigators they had an argument and he killed him in self defense.
The solicitor’s office says Ellis had no prior criminal record.
“It was a heinous and calculated murder,” Solicitor Barry Barnette said. “There is no way Mr. Pye’s death could have been self-defense based on the evidence collected.”
