WESTMINSTER, SC (WSPA) – A man was hospitalized after a house fire in Westminster, according to Oconee County Emergency Fire Chief Charlie King.
The fire happened Monday morning on Dr. Johns Road.
Crews saw heavy smoke coming from the eaves and the roof when they arrived on scene.
Chief King said the fire was brought under control before firefighters found a man in a bedroom.
The victim was resuscitated and taken to Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Chief King said the victim has received treatment and according to family shown “great improvement.”
King said the man will be moved to ICU, where he will remain under observation overnight.
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen of the home.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Investigators are hoping to speak to the man once his condition improves.
King said the fire investigation team is being supported by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and S.C. Law Enforcement Division.
