LAURENS Co., S.C. (WSPA) — Troopers said a driver of a truck was killed after crashing head on into two vehicles on Highway 101. A woman and child were also hurt in the wreck.
The crash happened around 6:25 p.m. Tuesday near Knighton Chapel Road a little over two miles from Woodruff.
S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Justin Sutherland said the driver of a pickup truck was headed north on Highway 101 when they crossed the center line and hit a 1994 Buick. A Gray Court woman driving the Buick was not injured.
The pickup truck driver continued on and hit a 2014 Jeep SUV. Sutherland said a 36-year-old Woodruff woman was driving the Jeep.
Troopers say she and a child passenger were both hurt. They were airlifted by helicopter to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Their condition is unknown.
Troopers say the driver of the truck died at the scene of the crash.
Laurens County Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek identified the driver as Dude Waters, Jr., 52. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:25 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled. No other information has been released at this time.
Everyone in the three-vehicle crash, except for the driver killed, were wearing seat belts, according to troopers.
