Man killed in crash on Liberty Hwy in Anderson Co. ID’d

ANDERSON Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A man was killed and another seriously hurt in a head-on crash on Liberty Highway.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore initially said he received information that the wreck involved two 18 wheelers.

Shore later said the crash involved a tractor trailer and car.

The S.C. Highway Patrol says the driver of the car was killed and the passenger was seriously hurt.

The driver was identified as Colton Kenneth Chitwood, 35, of Belton. He died at the scene from blunt force trauma and head trauma.

Chitwood was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The passenger in the vehicle was taken as a trauma patient to AnMed. The passenger was also wearing a seat belt.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. Monday on Liberty Highway near Waterford Court.

SCHP says the car crossed the center line and hit the truck head-on.

The road was blocked in that area more than two hours later, but later reopened.
