BREVARD, NC (WSPA) – Brevard Police Department officials said they are still looking for a suspect who reportedly robbed two people in the parking lot of a local restaurant and then shot a man.

According to police, the shooting happened at Cardinal Drive-In, 344 S. Broad St., around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 17.

A suspect approached two people in the parking lot of the restaurant after they had closed.

The suspect then reportedly robbed them and fired a gun, hitting one of them.

Police said the two victims went back to the restaurant and called for police and EMS.

The victims said they saw the gunman running westbound from the restaurant.

Police said the injured victim — identified as Waybern Shelton, 68, of Brevard — was shot in the upper abdomen, was treated at the scene and was later flown to a local hospital.

As of Monday evening, Shelton was still in critical condition.

The suspect in the shooting is still being sought by police at this time.

According to dispatch, the suspect was described as wearing dark clothing — a dark hoodie and tight jeans — and had a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Transylvania at 828-86-CRIME (828-862-7463), or call the police department’s non-emergency number at 828-883-2212.
