Man shot in hand during attempted robbery in Anderson Co.

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Anderson County Sheriff’s Office officials said a man was shot in his hand during an attempted robbery in the county Monday afternoon.

According to Sgt. JT Foster, deputies responded to a call in the 100 block of New Prospect Church Road just before 1:10 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

Foster said the victim and two suspects reportedly met in the parking lot of Dollar General to conduct a transaction for a cell phone.

The suspect then reportedly lured the man to an unidentified road off of Centerville Road to get the money for the phone, and that’s when they tried to rob the victim.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim pushed a handgun away from his face and was shot in the hand.

The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is ongoing at this time and sheriff’s office officials said it appears to be an isolated incident.

If you have been a victim of an incident like the one above, Anderson County officials said you can call 864-260-4400 to make a report.

They also remind you that if you are looking to buy or sell something online and you’re nervous about where you should conduct the transaction, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office offers a location at the law enforcement center at 305 Camson Road in Anderson to keep you safe.

These two “Safe Trade Stations” are in the front parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office and are there to help protect potential victims.
