BURNSVILLE, NC (WSPA) – A man was fatally shot by a Yancey County deputy after he reportedly broke into his wife’s home with an ax, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The call came in Friday night after a woman on Uncle Harveys Lane called 911 saying that her husband had broken into her home.

The woman told deputies that she had an active domestic violence restraining order against him.

The shooting is being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
