UNION COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – The Union County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect after an assault and burglary at a Jonesville home on Wednesday afternoon.

Union County Sheriff David Taylor said a black man with short hair wearing blue jeans, a horizontal striped shirt and a blue bandana on his face went to a home in the 100 block of Hickory Ridge Road in Jonesville and asked a 74-year-old woman at the home if he could use her phone.

The woman reportedly told him no, and he then broke her door and hit her in the head with a porcelain statue.

Taylor said the woman was knocked unconscious.

The victim’s husband arrived home to find his wife unconscious and bleeding from the head. She was taken to the Union Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies were notified of the incident around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Taylor said K9s and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter assisted in the search for the suspect, but were unable to find him.

Taylor said no neighbors reportedly saw anything.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 864-427-0800 or the sheriff’s office at 864-429-1612.
