Meeting planned to learn more about wildfire safety

There will be a meeting Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at Greenville Water on West Washington Street where you can learn from professionals the best way to prepare for a wild fire.

The U.S. Forest Service works with local sheriff’s offices to make sure people are notified of wildfires and when they need to evacuate.

Officials with the forest service tell me mountain areas in the upstate can be impacted by wildfires like the Pinnacle fire in 2016.

They say you can do things around your home to make it less likely to burn.

Be mindful of the things you plant around your home, clean out gutters and make sure your mulch is not flammable.

Officials say areas where buildings and homes meet up with woodland areas are harder to fight fires.

That is why how you prepare for a fire helps fire fighters because, their number one goal is to preserve life and structure.
