Missing 3-year-old, father found safe; AMBER Alert canceled

UPDATE: An AMBER Alert has been canceled and a missing 3-year-old has been located and is safe.

According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office news release, Stephen Drake Jones and Ezra David Jones have been found by sheriff’s office investigators.

Both are safe and in good condition, according to the release.


BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – An AMBER Alert has been issued for a missing 3-year-old child in Buncombe County.

According to a North Carolina AMBER Alerts notification, law enforcement are searching for Ezra David Jones.

Officials said the child’s abductors is his father, Stephen Drake Jones, 27, and said the abductor was last seen in Henderson County traveling towards Black Mountain, possibly heading towards Winston-Salem.

We reported earlier that Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were trying to locate Stephen Jones, who had last been seen by his father in Hendersonville on Tuesday, Sept. 18 with his son.

Stephen Jones is described as being 6-foot-1 inches tall, weighs around 185 pounds and has red hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a T-shirt, khaki shorts and a baseball cap.

Ezra Jones is described as being and Asian male about 3-feet-tall, weighs around 30 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. 

Stephen Jones was driving a blue 1990 Ford F-250, with a North Carolina registration plate: PEC-5783.
