Mitchell Gibson died from drowning says coroner

ABBEVILLE CO., SC (WSPA) Mitchell Gibson died from drowning, according to the coroner.

He says they manner is unknown, but there was no trauma or indication of foul play.

Gibson’s body was found in Richard Russel Lake.

DNR says Gibson’s body was recovered just before 2 p.m. Thursday by the Oconee Co. dive team.

Royston & Associates, an Underwater Search & Recovery Group, used side scan sonar and found something that may be a body on Wednesday.

They were hired by Gibson’s family.

Gibson went missing on the lake in March 2016.

They say Gibson was in 137 feet of water.

DNR says Mitchell Gibson reported to work on March 13 and started bait fishing near the lake’s dam, but he never reported back.

His truck and boat trailer were still at the lake.

The family says they found items that belonged to Gibson, but they never found him or his boat.
