CHESTERFIELD, SC (WBTW/WSPA) – Breanna Denise Lewis has been charged with homicide by child abuse in connection to the death of her daughter, according to court records.
Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks previously said the body of Lewis’ daughter, 11-month-old Harlee Lane Lewis, was found hidden under paper inside a diaper box about 1,000 yards from her home on May 29. The sheriff’s office has described Lewis as the primary suspect in her daughter’s death.
Lewis told deputies a man assaulted her and pulled the baby from her arms as she was checking the mail.
An AMBER Alert was issued for the infant shortly before her body was found.
Lewis was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning, but did not attend the bond hearing.
She waived the hearing through her attorney who reserved the right to return at a later date and request bond.
Lewis remains in jail.
Deputy Solicitor Kernard E. Redmond declined to release information Wednesday regarding the case in order to comply with the gag order issued last week.
