Moped driver dies after hitting deer in Spartanburg Co.

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Troopers said a moped driver was killed when he hit a deer in Spartanburg County.

The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. Thursday on Goldmine Road. 

Lance Cpl. Joe Hovis said the driver was collided with a deer as he headed west on the road located between Pacolet and Clifton communities in Spartanburg County. 

James Franklin Lee Oquinn, 52, of Spartanburg, was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where he died of injuries at about 6:54 a.m., according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office. The coroner said he died of closed head trauma. 

7News crew at the scene said the crash was about a mile from West Main Street in Pacolet.
