UNION Co., S.C. (WSPA) — Authorities say a Union man died in a moped crash.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday on Highway 9 near Jonesville.

Trooper Joe Hovis with the S.C. Highway Patrol said a moped driver was headed east on Highway 9 and hit a pickup truck as the driver got on the highway from Bob Little Road.

The driver was thrown from the moped. They were not wearing a helmet and died at the scene of the crash, Hovis said.

The coroner identified the moped driver as William Thomas Keith of Vanderford Road in Union.

Coroner William Holcombe said Keith was traveling towards Lockhart on Highway 9 when he hit the rear side of a vehicle that was crossing the highway.

The pickup driver and a passenger in his truck were not hurt in the wreck.

7News reported the driver of the pickup was charged with information provided by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Troopers later said the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
