More rain expected after downpours cause flooding, sinkholes

News

(WSPA) — Downpours caused flooding and left a mess across the area Wednesday, and the rain hasn’t stopped yet.

Emergency responders in Henderson County had to help people stuck in vehicles.

Numerous road hazards were also reported in neighboring Transylvania County.

A sinkhole cut off access to a main road for dozens of residents in Toccoa, Georgia. The sinkhole opened up around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Deer Chase Drive and Deer Chase Way.

The National Weather Service says two to five inches of rain has fallen since Tuesday and more heavy rain is expected Thursday.

A flash flood watch is in effect through Thursday night for several counties across the area.
