Murder charge after woman dies in ‘drug deal gone bad’ in Simpsonville

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A Honea Path woman is charged with murder after the victim died from her injuries in what deputies called a drug deal gone bad.

Kaitlin Nicole Rochester, 27, had been charged with attempted murder and criminal conspiracy for the incident on May 23.

Abigail Ness, 28, was found in the middle of New Harrison Bridge Road with severe trauma to her body. The Simpsonville woman was on life support before her death on June 13.

The coroner said Ness died of blunt force trauma to the head. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Lieutenant Jimmy Bolt with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said Kaitlin Rochester’s charge has been upgraded to murder due to the victim’s death.

Rochester’s wife, 31-year-old Sabrina Nicole Rochester, has been charged with criminal conspiracy.

Deputies say the couple conspired to rob Ness of marijuana.

During the drug deal, deputies say Kaitlin Rochester sped off in her pickup truck while Ness was in the driver side window.

Ness was dragged by the truck before falling and hitting her head on the asphalt when Kaitlin Rochester intentionally slammed on the brakes to get Ness off the truck, according to an arrest warrant.

Kaitlin Rochester remains in the Greenville County Detention Center.
