NC mom accused of abandoning kids near school

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – A Wake County mom is accused of abandoning her two children on the side of a road last month and then speeding off, police said.

On Oct. 2 around 9 a.m., Jennifer Jean Westfall, 38, who lives near Fuquay-Varina, is accused of dropping her 9-year-old and 19-month-old child off on the side of the road in Cary, police said.

Another mom, who was nearby and witnessed the incident, then called a Reedy Creek school resource officer, according to police.

The officer then retrieved the children and brought them inside a school building.

Westfall was taken into custody by Fuquay-Varina police Monday night.

Westfall is charged with two counts misdemeanor child abuse, according to arrest records.

The children have since been placed in foster care after DSS was contacted, officials said.
