A mom was charged with neglect after western North Carolina deputies say she kicked her teenage son our a car on Interstate 40, forcing him to walk more than four miles for help.

Cynthia Michelle Buckner, 40, of Nebo was charged with contributing to the delinquency or neglect of a juvenile by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the Buckner home on Monday around 8:45 p.m. after the father reported their 16-year-old son was missing.

We’re told Cynthia Buckner and the teenager were in a car on I-40 heading back to their house when the two got into an argument. Deputies say the mom told her son to get out of the car.

The teen walked four miles to Love’s Truck Stop and was eventually returned to his father unharmed later that night.
