ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) – Monday, North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program, Division Engineers and North Carolina Department of Transportation contractors hosted kick off announcements across the state for National Workzone Safety Week.
In 2018, there were 7,353 crashes and 32 deaths in construction zones across North Carolina. The main causes were speeding and distracted driving.
North Carolina Workzone engineer, Steve Kite, said this week starts the ramp up of construction projects across the state, which unfortunately means there’ll be a higher chances for crashes.
The slogan for this year’s National Workzone Safety Week: Drive like you work here, which further pushes the message of safety.
