Have you dropped your smart phone recently and shattered the glass? There’s a new high-tech store in downtown Greenville that can fix it and entertain you while you wait.
After being frustrated with long wait times and nothing to do, Gizmo Bar owner Shaun Robertson came up with an idea to open a repair shop for cell phones, tablets and drones that serves beer and wine too.
“The devices are repaired behind the bar so they never leave your sight,” Robertson explains. “It’s got six 50 -inch touch screens built into the bar… the person sitting right behind you becomes engaged in what you’re looking at. I think that’s been the biggest problem in most bars is the lack of social interaction we have with one another.”
Gizmo Bar offers repairs until as late as 8pm and also functions as a bar, lounge or workspace.
“This is the first of its kind,” Robertson says. “No one had ever used this technology in a ultra lounge kind of environment.”
The screens were custom made oversees to withstand a lot of abuse and spills. Soon, Robertson plans to add object recognition technology. The screens have the ability to read QR codes, so one idea is to use the technology to display informational content related to customers’ beverages.
There’s no food on the menu, but customers are encouraged to use delivery services on the touch screens.
“These people are figuring out how to beat the waits on Friday and Saturday nights,”
Gizmo Bar is open 7 days a week and is located at 245 North Main Street in downtown Greenville.
