NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Two people were arrested at Nashville International Airport early Wednesday morning after officers found nearly 160 pounds of marijuana in four checked bags.

Trung Tieu and Tihn Van Tran were first stopped Tuesday night, then charged overnight with felony drug offenses.

According to their arrest affidavits, several officers, including K-9s, found luggage with “a strong odor of air freshener coming from them and clear food saver style vacuum sealed bags” sticking out of the zipper.

Police were led to the two suspects because their names were on the luggage tags. Officers were waiting at their gate to speak with them as they got off their flight from Oakland, California.

The two men were taken to the DEA Office at the airport with their luggage and they agreed to let officers look inside.

Police say they found several vacuum sealed bags of marijuana inside those four bags, totaling 159.5 pounds of marijuana. Officers noted in the arrest affidavit that both men had two cellphones “that rang constantly” while officers were with them.

Based on the packaging, quantity and type of marijuana, officers believe Tieu and Tran were trafficking the drugs. They were headed to Jacksonville, Florida.
