The Hart County Sheriff’s Office says one of its officers was involved in a shooting Thursday evening.

Deputies say they responded to Old Reed Creek Road around 6:20 to serve a warrant for a domestic situation.

When deputies arrived to the scene, the suspect, Joseph Morrison,50,  barricaded himself inside the residence, according to reports. Deputies say they attempted to negotiate with Morrison, but the he started firing shots out of the home.

Moments later the suspect made verbal threats to kill the Sheriff and deputies, reports say.

Morrison came out of his house and charged towards the Sheriff and deputies with a machete raised in the air. Shots were then fired to stop the suspect, officers say.

Hart County EMS and Fire Department were called to the scene.

Morrison was taken to An-Med Hospital where he later was released and is presently in custody, according to deputies.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be investigating the shooting.
