Organizations prepare to feed thousands on Thanksgiving

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Groups across the Upstate are getting ready to feed thousands Thursday for Thanksgiving.

As folks were dropping off donations Wednesday, the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen was preparing for a feast.

Executive Director Lou Sartor says they are expecting to serve around three thousand meals.

“We are just delighted that people remember that we are here and that we are here to serve and share our love with others tomorrow,” Sartor explained.

Terry Owings, Kitchen Supervisor at The Salvation Army in Greenville, says this is one of their busiest days of the year. They’re cooking turkey with all the trimmings for about 400 meals.

“We’re getting ready to have a celebration,” Owings said. “You see a lot of smiles around here, a whole lot of smiles. That means something to us, you know these guys are back here working really hard to get this done, but it’s a labor of love.”
