Pedestrian ID who died after collision in Myrtle Beach; woman charged

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – One pedestrian is dead and another is in the hospital after they were struck by two vehicles Sunday night.

Michelle McSpadden, with the Horry County Coroner’s Office, identified the woman who died as Ashlin Monteforte.

McSpadden said Monteforte died of injuries sustained on Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on Hwy. 17 near Kings Road. Monteforte was 32 years old and living in the Myrtle Beach area.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins, Alaina Marie Young has been charged in the crash.

Acording to J. Reuben Long Detention Center booking records, Young is 34 years old and from the Sandy Springs, Georgia area. She is charged with felony driving under the influence where death results. No bail has been set as of 1:45 p.m. Monday.

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a Toyota traveling south on U.S. 17 struck one pedestrian, then a driver of a Nissan traveling south hit that individual and another pedestrian before crashing into the rear of the Toyota around 8:10 p.m.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured. Both drivers had one passenger who were not hurt.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
