Permit filed to demolish historic Spartanburg home

A permit has been filed with the city of Spartanburg to demolish a historic home in Spartanburg. It was issued out on Wednesday.

The Bon Haven was built in 1884 and was the home of John Cleveland. Cleveland founded Converse College and was also an integral part of the public works department for Spartanburg.

There was a large campaign that was started in 2015 to help purchase the home, but it was ended when not enough money was raised. They also tried to get the home established as a historical landmark.

The permit does not say when the home will be demolished.

The great grandson of John Cleveland did not want to comment about the demolition or the plans at this time.
